01. Topic Selection
We review the questions and concerns people ask in their day-to-day lives when deciding what to write about. Free TYHO AMAs, surveys, client check-ins and conversations with our community help us understand which topics are useful and relevant. We also consider common mental health concerns and questions that come up in our work as a therapy platform.
02. Research & Writing
Our writers research each topic using relevant, reputable sources before writing an article. Depending on the topic, this may include research literature, in-depth discussions with TYHO Therapists for their insights, and references from other reliable health resources.
We look at the evidence behind key claims and avoid presenting a single source or viewpoint as the full picture when a topic is more nuanced. We then turn this information into practical content for our community. Our aim is to pay close attention to how to phrase and explain mental health concepts in accessible language.
03. Professional Review
Articles are reviewed by clinical psychologists who are members of the Singapore Association for Counselling (SAC) or an equivalent professional body. Our reviewers assess how the information is presented from a clinical lens and whether the wording is appropriate for a general audience.
As part of the review, they may look for:
- Accuracy: Are the mental health concepts and explanations accurate?
- Context: Is important context missing, or could a statement be misunderstood without it?
- Language: Does the article avoid assumptions, labels or wording that could feel judgemental or stigmatising?
- Clinical framing: Does the article avoid implying a diagnosis based on common experiences or symptoms?
- Autonomy: Does the content give readers space to make their own choices rather than telling them what they should feel, think or do?
- Practical guidance: Are suggestions presented as options rather than prescriptive advice?
- Clarity: Can someone without a mental health background understand what we are saying?
Clinical reviewers may suggest changes to the information, examples or language used in an article. We make the relevant revisions before publication. You can also learn more about our reviewers and the TYHO content they have reviewed through their individual profiles.
04. Ongoing Updates
We review published content once every six months, and sooner when there is a reason to — new research, changes in terminology, reader feedback, or information that is no longer accurate. Where the changes are substantive, the article goes back through professional review.
We’d love to hear from you!
