Scheduling your first online therapy session may feel daunting. However, remember that reaching out for help is one of the bravest things you can do.

This blog is a quick but comprehensive guide on how to book an online therapy session at TYHO through three simple steps.

What is Online Therapy?
Online therapy or virtual therapy is an accessible and affordable type of mental health counselling where you connect with your therapist over the internet, generally through video calls. Research shows that online therapy sessions are as effective as in-person therapy.
You can attend online therapy sessions from the comfort of your home using any device with an internet connection, such as a PC, mobile phone or tablet.
A 2022 study in Singapore found that 43% of respondents aged 16 to 24 use digital technology to manage their mental wellness. This reflects a growing acceptance of online mental health resources such as online therapy.
How to Book an Online Therapy Session at TYHO: 3 Simple Steps
You can begin your online therapy journey at TYHO with just a handful of clicks of your mouse or a couple of taps on your mobile device!
The following sections detail the three key steps to scheduling an online therapy session on our platform.
Step 1: Sign In or Create an Account with TYHO
Do you see the ‘Sign In’ button on the top right corner of our menu? Tapping that button is the very first step.
Upon clicking it, you will be prompted to sign in to your TYHO account.
If you are a new user and are scheduling your first session, click on ‘here’ in the prompt: ‘If you are a new user, create an account here.’
You can now create your TYHO account in under a minute by entering your details or by signing up with Google/Facebook.
Step 2: Review Therapist Profiles and Find the Right Fit
The second step involves reviewing the profiles of various Therapists at TYHO.
At TYHO, we refer to all our mental health professionals collectively as ‘Therapists’. Our team, however, includes Therapists, psychologists, psychotherapists, and counsellors.
Each mental health professional may specialise in different mental health issues or approaches.
You may choose to explore different Therapists in the two ways discussed below.
1) Through the search box
If you’d prefer to search for therapists by typing out specific locations or mental health issues, you may do so through the search box.
The search box may also be useful if you’re already seeing a TYHO Therapist in Singapore and would like to schedule a session with the same Therapist.

2) Through filters
Filters are present on the left-hand side of the page and can be a handy tool for first-time users of the platform.
At TYHO, you can filter therapists by any combination of the following filters.
a) Issues: This filter lists common mental health issues that people face. You may browse through the options to choose the issue that you’re seeking therapy for.
b) Specialisations: The ‘Specialisations’ filter lists various mental health issues that TYHO Therapists specialise in.
c) Gender: This filter allows you to filter out therapists by their gender.
d) Language: Using this filter, you can find therapists who offer therapy sessions in different languages.
e) Service Type: The ‘Service Type’ filter helps you filter therapists based on the various types of therapy services that TYHO offers, eg individual therapy and couples therapy.
f) Medium: This filter lets you find therapists who offer therapy sessions in your preferred medium/mode. TYHO Therapists offer therapy sessions in the following three modes:
- Video (Online)
- Audio (Online)
- In-person
Take your time to review and shortlist the Therapists you’d like to consider. You can do this by watching their introductory videos, reading their descriptions, reviewing their qualifications, and going over client reviews.
Tip: Head over to the section ‘How to Find the Right Online Therapist in Singapore?’ for a quick guide to shortlisting therapists.
Step 3: Finalise Your Booking!
Once you have finalised the therapist that you want to go ahead with, all you have to do is select a suitable date and time for your first session.
Your therapist in Singapore may offer different slots for therapy sessions. Pick a slot that best suits you.
The final step is to make the payment and finalise your booking!
How to Find the Right Online Therapist in Singapore?
During the process of shortlisting therapists, asking yourself the following questions may help you find the right fit.
- Why are you seeking therapy?
- What are your goals for therapy?
- What issues do you wish to address through therapy?
- What issues does the therapist specialise in?
- What approaches does the therapist use?
- What qualifications and certifications does the therapist hold?
- What modes does the therapist offer sessions in?
- How much does the therapist charge?
Mental Health Issues Commonly Addressed in Online Therapy Sessions
This section lists some common issues that people generally seek online therapy sessions for. However, it’s important to remember that your issues do not have to fit the label of any concern or disorder in order for you to reach out for mental health support.
- Anxiety Disorders like Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD) and Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD)
- Panic Disorders
- Depression
- Phobias
Apart from mental health concerns and diagnoses, the following are some other reasons why people may choose to explore therapy.
- General stress, work-induced stress or a sudden increase in stress

A Checklist to Prepare for Your First Online Therapy Session
Scheduled your first online therapy session? Congratulations on taking this brave and rewarding step towards better mental health!
If you’re feeling anxious about your first session, here’s a quick checklist to help you prepare.
1) Note Down Your Goals for Therapy
Remember that list of goals you wrote down to help shortlist the right therapists? Set aside a good amount of time before your first session to revisit your goals and explore them as much in detail as possible.
Doing this will help you go into your first online therapy session with confidence.
It’s perfectly okay if you’re unable to define your goals clearly. Your therapist in Singapore will work with you to define them over the course of the first few sessions.

2) Choose a Private Place to Attend the Session
Most people attend online therapy sessions from home. You may also choose to attend your sessions from any other place that offers good internet connectivity and privacy.
Plan ahead and choose a spot where you will not be disturbed by anyone else for the duration of your session. You may open up best when you are in a place that feels safe, secure and comfortable to you.
3) Make Sure You Have a Stable Internet Connection
Stable internet connectivity is a must-have for online therapy sessions.
After choosing where to attend your online therapy session, check your internet connection.
In addition to this, make sure your device is charged and ready.
You can talk to your therapist in Singapore using a:
- Mobile phone
- PC (laptop or desktop)
- Tablet
- Any other device with internet connection and Audio/Video support
4) Create a List of Questions to Ask Your Therapist
When starting online therapy, you may have various questions and doubts that come up. Make a list of questions to ask your therapist during your first session to better understand them and their process.
For instance, here are some questions to start with:
- What mental health issues do you specialise in?
- Do you have experience working with the issue(s) that I want to address?
- What approach/type of therapy do you follow?
- What will a session typically look like?
- When can I start expecting changes in my mental health?
- What is your refund/cancellation policy?
- What is your availability for future sessions?
5) Approach Your First Session With an Open Mind
Approach your first few therapy sessions, especially your very first one, with an open mind.
During your initial sessions, your therapist may majorly focus on setting the tone, building trust and getting to know you and your goals.
Keep in mind that building a trusting therapeutic relationship takes time and effort. Give it some time, but remember – you can always change your therapist if you want to.
Conclusion
If you have been feeling overwhelmed, anxious or confused about scheduling your first online therapy session, know that it’s absolutely normal to feel so.
