Frequently Asked Questions

What is online counselling or therapy?

Online counselling is when you access therapy services remotely, either through your computer, tablet, or smartphone.

Similar to in-person therapy, online therapy also involves talking to a Therapist about your issues such as mood swings, low self-esteem, or depression.

If you choose online therapy with TYHO, you can attend an audio-only session or via video. Regardless of your preference, the TYHO platform makes it highly convenient for you to manage all your bookings in your dashboard.

Research shows that online therapy can be as effective as face-to-face therapy, with the additional benefits of time and cost savings.

TYHO Therapists provide online counselling for several services, such as family therapy, couples therapy, individual counselling, and child therapy.

Who are our Therapists?

At TYHO, we have a remarkable team of qualified counsellors and psychologists (collectively called ‘Therapists’ on our platform).

Our Therapists offer high-quality mental health support and incorporate an integrative approach to help clients cope with their personal and emotional problems.

TYHO psychologists in Singapore use evidence-based methods (eg solution-focused brief therapy) to identify and diagnose several mental health disorders. Then, they devise a Therapeutic Plan that is non-medical and long-term.

Selecting a specific type of mental health practitioner (eg psychologist, counsellors) on our platform is not typically necessary. This is because there is a significant overlap in their training, qualifications, and approaches, and all of them can assist with mild to moderate mental health issues.

For example, professional counsellors and psychologists are both skilled at addressing common issues such as depression, anxiety, interpersonal problems, addiction, self-esteem, stress, and so on.

The important thing to remember is to choose a mental health professional you feel most comfortable with.

What are the available timings and how do I book a session?

You can book sessions even on the same day, up to two hours before your session.

The time slots each Therapist offers are reflected on their respective profiles here.

For any additional information, please view our FAQs page. If you need help or assistance choosing a Therapist, or if you have any other concerns, please get in touch with our team via email at [email protected] or through WhatsApp.

Does TYHO provide only online counselling services? Can I see a counsellor or psychologist in-person near me?

TYHO offers both online therapy and in-person counselling services in Singapore.

You can see the location of your preferred Therapist indicated in a blue box in their short profile.

To find the right Therapist for yourself, filter your requirements based on the issues you are facing, preferred medium (online or in-person), type of service (individual therapy, couples counselling, family counselling etc), and the Therapist’s gender.

Kindly note that in-person therapy sessions with TYHO carry an additional S$ 43.60 (w/GST). However, both audio and video sessions do not have any additional cost.

Look for a Therapist

How long is each session?

Each session is 60 minutes long, regardless of whether it is an audio-only or video session. The duration of the session also applies to all our services – eg individual, couples, or family.

How do I know if I need counselling?

People seek counselling services for several reasons. However, these are a few common indicators that you may need counselling:

  • You have been experiencing a consistently low mood
  • You have a lack of interest in your usual activities
  • You are struggling to maintain connections with loved ones

The points mentioned above are not exhaustive, and you should consult a professional if you are unsure about your need for therapy.

Most times, we postpone trying online therapy because we think that our mental health problems are not ‘important enough’ and that they can wait.

Sometimes, people may avoid seeking online therapy in Singapore because they may be confused about what to discuss or how to open up with a Therapist.

If you are still hesitant to try counselling, you can read more about the signs that you may need therapy and the help you can get.

Remember that therapy is not reserved for severe issues or disorders. ‘Prevention is better than cure’ applies not only to physical health but also to our mental well-being.

Seeking therapy to gain a fresh perspective, build habits, or simply increase your self-awareness are all valid reasons for therapy.

What is the difference between a psychiatrist, clinical psychologist, psychotherapist, professional counsellor and social worker?

Psychiatrist: Diagnoses mental health conditions and can prescribe medication.

Clinical Psychologist: Diagnoses mental health conditions and manages more serious mental health disorders non-medicinally in the long term. For example, psychologists can help with obsessive-compulsive disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Psychotherapist: Focuses on your thought processes and helps you identify the root causes of your issues using specific therapeutic modalities and approaches. Psychotherapists use techniques like cognitive-behavioural therapy and narrative therapy to help you manage symptoms of stress, anxiety, and mood swings.

Counselling Psychologist or Professional Counsellor: Employs an eclectic approach and draws from several integrative therapies to help people work through personal and emotional issues. Examples include resolving conflicts in relationships, improving confidence and self-esteem, and learning to manage negative emotions.

Social Worker: Works with and advocates for individuals and families and liaises with various professionals in the community (eg psychologists, psychiatrists) on behalf of the client.
